The Thermodynamic Covariance Principle

چکیده
Onsager’s theory is based on three assumptions [1,2]: i) The probability distribution function for the fluctuations of thermodynamic quantities (Temperature, pressure, degree of advancement of a chemical reaction etc.) is a Maxwellian ii) Fluctuations decay according to a linear law and iii) The principle of the detailed balance (or the microscopic reversibility) is satisfied. Onsager showed the equivalence of the assumptions i)-iii) with the equations

Thermodynamic Field Theory with the Iso-Entropic Formalism
Abstract A new formulation of the thermodynamic field theory (TFT) is presented. In this new version, one of the basic restriction in the old theory, namely a closed-form solution for the thermodynamic field strength, has been removed. In addition, the general covariance principle is replaced by Prigogine’s thermodynamic covariance principle (TCP). The introduction of TCP required the applicati...
متن کاملEntropy Density of Space – Time and Gravity : a Conceptual Synthesis
I show that combining the principle of equivalence and the principle of general covariance with the known properties of local Rindler horizons, perceived by accelerated observers, leads to the following inescapable conclusion: The field equations describing gravity in any diffeomorphism-invariant theory must have a thermodynamic interpretation. This synthesis of quantum theory, thermodynamics a...
متن کاملThermodynamic matchers for the construction of the cuckoo RNA family
RNA family models describe classes of functionally related, non-coding RNAs based on sequence and structure conservation. The most important method for modeling RNA families is the use of covariance models, which are stochastic models that serve in the discovery of yet unknown, homologous RNAs. However, the performance of covariance models in finding remote homologs is poor for RNA families wit...
متن کاملComparison of entropy generation minimization principle and entransy theory in optimal design of thermal systems
In this study, the relationship among the concepts of entropy generation rate, entransy theory, and generalized thermal resistance to the optimal design of thermal systems is discussed. The equations of entropy and entransy rates are compared and their implications for optimization of conductive heat transfer are analyzed. The theoretical analyses show that based on entropy generation minimizat...
متن کاملOn the meaning of Lorentz covariance
In classical mechanics, Galilean covariance and the principle of relativity are completely equivalent and hold for all possible dynamical processes. In contrast, in relativistic physics the situation is much more complex. It will be shown that Lorentz covariance and the principle of relativity are not completely equivalent. The reason is that the principle of relativity actually only holds for ...
